We see people vaping on Perth’s streets every day, but did you know that you can face a hefty fine of $45,000 for using an e-cigarette containing nicotine? And while the use of e-cigarettes themselves is not illegal, their sale and supply in Western Australia remains so.
This is in spite of research which shows that using an e-cigarette containing nicotine is 95 per cent less dangerous than smoking cigarettes (Public Health England, February 2018), and that vaping improves lung health in those trying to quit smoking (Clinical Science, August 2016).
We believe it’s long past time that the laws in Western Australia caught up with reality. The people of WA deserve free and unfettered access to e-cigarettes and e-liquids containing nicotine. We are calling upon the WA Government and Parliament to make that a reality.
