Legalise Vaping Australia is a campaign organised by the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, the peak body for taxpayers in Australia.
The WA Spokesman for Legalise Vaping Australia is Aaron Stonehouse MLC, Liberal Democrats MP.
So that’s who we are, here’s want we want to do:
Over the course of the next couple of months, we’ll be campaigning across Western Australia to collect a petition of 50,000 signatures in support of the legalisation of vaping.
After that, we’ll ask Aaron Stonehouse MLC, to table the petition in Parliament, and to ask the Government to respond. Changing laws is never easy! But, we wouldn’t be going to all of this trouble unless we believed we could make it work!
To the President and Members of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled.
We the undersigned call upon the Legislative Council to facilitate the legalisation of the use of nicotine in electronic vaping devices, as a less harmful alternative to smoking tobacco.
Recent reports from the UK, the US and Australia show that vaping is a proven, successful method of quitting traditional cigarettes. And, as opposed to cigarettes, vaped nicotine only contains nicotine, not the other 3500 chemicals which cause disease and terminal illness.
Current laws in WA are not only behind the times, but are putting people’s health at risk. For this reason, we call upon the Legislative Council to:
(a) amend the Tobacco Control Act 2006 to legalise the sale of vaping devices; and
(b) amend the Medicines and Poisons Act 2014 to allow for the sale and use of nicotine in such devices.
The people of WA deserve free and easy access to a harm reduction alternative to smoking, and we call upon the Legislative Council to make such access a reality in law. And your petitioners as in duty bound, will ever pray.
